SHELF GROWING

Shelf gardening with fluorescents may be the trend of the future, since the materials are so inexpensive, and easy to obtain. Fluorescent lamps are great for shelf gardening. In this system, many shelves can be placed, one above the other, and fluorescent lamps are used on each shelf. Some shelves have 24 hour lighting, some have 12 hour lighting (for flowering). Two areas are best, perhaps with one other devoted to cloning and germination of seed.
Shelf gardening assumes your going to keep all plants 3 or shorter at maturity, so all shelves are 3-4 feet apart. Less light is necessary when you have plants that are this short and forced to mature early.
One drawback to a shelf garden like this is that it is very time consuming to adjust the lamp height every day, and it is harder to take a vacation for even a week with no tending of the garden. This applies mostly to the vegetative stage, when plants are growing as much as an inch per day. Lamps on the flowering shelves are not adjusted nearly as often.
Normally, the lamps should be kept within 2 inches of the tops of the plants, with the plants arranged such that they get progressively taller as the end of the lamps go up, so that all plants are within this 2 range. This is an ideal however, and if you do go on vacation, adjust the lamps so that your sure the plants will not be able to grow up to the lamps within that length of time. If enough flourecents are used to completely saturate the shelf with light, the spacing issue will not create spindly plants. They will mearly grow a little slower if the lamps are not very close to them.
An alternative is to use fluorescent lamps for cloning, germination and early seedling growth on the top shelf of a closet, then switch over to HPS for heavy vegatative growth and/or flowering in the main closet area.

Position the HPS such that it wont need adjustment, at the top most possible point in the closet or room. Most HPS installations will not require lamp height adjustment. Just attach the lamp to the underside of shelf or ceiling as high as possible, and if you want to get a few plants closer to it, put them on a temporary shelf, box or table to get them closer to the lamp.
A shelf is all that is necessary with this type of setup, preferably at least 18 wide, up to about 24 maximum. This area must be painted a very bright white, or covered with aluminum foil, dull side out to reflect light back to the plants. (Dull side out prevents hot-spots; diffuses light better.) Paint the shelf white too. Or, use aluminized mylar, a space blanket, or any silvery surface material. Do not use mirrors, as the glass soaks up light.
Hang shop lamps from chains and make sure you can adjust them with hooks or some other type of mechanism so they can be kept as close to the plants as possible at all times (1-2).
If the lamps are too far from the plants, the plants could grow long, spindly stems trying to reach the lamp, and will not produce as much bud at maturity. This is due to internode length being much longer. This is the length of stem between each set of leaves. If it is shorter, there can be more internodes, thus more branches, thus a plant that provides more buds in less space at harvest time.
Shelf gardening is sometimes referred to as Sea of Green, because many plants are grown close together, creating a green canopy of tops that are grown and matured quickly, and the next crop is started and growing concurrently in a separate area of continuous light. Clones are raised in a constant light shelf, until they start to grow well vegetatively, then placed on a 12 hour per day shelf to flower.

To start a container tomato growing campaign there are a few tricks to consider before you start. You must first choose the type of tomato you want to grow. There are as many styles and varieties as there are people living in the state of New York. But with all the choices available, you must decide how the tomatoes will be used and pick the best one for your patio or deck gardening endeavors. Choosing the right plant may seem a daunting task, but if you ask for help from your garden center you will usually be steered in the right direction.

You will also need an appropriate container. The perfect pot is a self waterer that will ensure that the plant’s roots do not become waterlogged and rot before you see the fruits of the harvest, but will keep water close at hand for the plant to absorb the water through the soil. These can be purchased anywhere garden supplies are sold, but you can actually use whatever large container you may already have – so long as it has adequate drainage. If you have leftover plastic buckets from house painting, punch a few holes in the bottom and put some gravels or small rocks in there to keep the dirt from stopping up the holes, put in fresh dirt (potting soil is lighter) and your plant, set in the sun, and you are ready to wait!

Another thing to consider is that tomatoes need sunlight. If you do not have direct sun the plants will be a little leggy (tall and spindly), but will still produce tomatoes for your salad. Tomatoes love heat more than light, so make sure you have them in a spot that they will get a lot of heat. They are very resilient, but to have great success you must keep them warm.

Keeping the unnecessary parts of the plant from flourishing will increase your yield. Pull out the suckers (the leaves that grow between the stalk and the limb) since they will not produce anything – but will direct energy away from the fruit. Most tomatoes need to have a stake or trellis to grow on, but you can keep a tomato plant pruned back a bit so that it doesn’t overtake the entire patio. Just make sure you do not cut off any part of the plant that has flowers or tomatoes on it!

Choose your plants, tools, and area wisely and you will have all the tomatoes you can eat. Growing tomatoes on a patio or deck is fun and easy, not to mention healthy and inexpensive! Try it this year, and you will surely be hooked.

How well does the Bubbleponics™ Kit really work?

The kit works so well that it has won awards from various major magazines. Thousands of customers have been totally satisfied and delighted with their revolutionary Bubbleponics™ systems. You’ll be absolutely AMAZED and 100% satisfied with the growth rates you experience.

TOP

Is it legal to buy a Bubbleponics™ Kit?

YES. It is 100% legal. We simply sell hydroponic gardening kits. It is no different in terms of legality than going to a hardware store, buying a bag of soil, a plastic planter, and some miracle grow. We do not endorse any illegal activity whatsoever and we do not discuss anything illegal. We run our business by the letter of the law and we have had no problems whatsoever to date.

TOP

Can I use this kit to grow?

Of course! We can say with complete confidence that the Bubbleponics™ Kit has been used to grow over 100 different kinds of plants, including vegetables, herbs, and flowers. No matter what you want to grow, our total hydroponic solutions are going to work for you!

TOP

What kind of hydroponic systems are these kits?

The Bubbleponics™ hydroponic feeding method is a new revolutionary design. Taking full advantage of the new growing medium, hydroton, Bubbleponics™ is about delivering a constant, highly oxygenated stream of nutrient solution directly to the entire root zone. This means that the roots have to do less work to find loads of nutrients and oxygen. Now the plant can put more energy into growing, and less energy into extending the roots. This is the basic theory of hydroponics, however, Bubbleponics™ adds a new overdrive gear to high performance growing systems.

TOP

How large is a Bubbleponics™ Kit?

The 6 planter kit is 21in x 14in and is 13 inches tall. The reservoir holds up to 8 gallons of solution, however, we recommend using only 6 gallons as this facilitates ease of portability and meets the standard one gallon per plant feeding ratio for large plants.

TOP

How easy is it to perform routine cleaning and maintenance on my Bubbleponics™ Kit?

The irrigation system has it’s own filter (within the distribution cap) and can be completely and very easily dismantled without needing any tools. One of the most important user benefits is ease of maintenance, something that most users completely overlook when purchasing hydro systems. The entire Bubbleponics™ system can be dismantled into individual parts in less than a minute by hand. All the irrigation parts can be restored by simply soaking them in a strong bleach solution, and should anything need to be replaced, almost every part can be found at any regular hardware store, and of course, from us if needed. No other system gives the user such easy access to all the nuts and bolts.

Strain: Ogre/Afghan
Lighting 100% HPS from seed to harvest. 2 X 150 watt HPS about 2 inches away. lights are discontinued and not on the market :(

Veg. was 3 weeks
Flower was 13 weeks.
This plant was taking to long and was still doing great and growing at 13 weeks. The white hairs were still exploding and I lost my patience. As soon as I seen some amber trichomes I harvested. I will grow white widow or northern lights next.
Soil: Fox Farm Organic Ocean Forest
Pot size was 1 us gallon or 3.8 liters.
No Co2 or Hydro was used in this grow.
2 powerful turbo fans and 1 occilating fan was used for good air movement.

Dried Harvest was 12 oz.
What I could of done to increase the harvest to a pound or more was buy a CO2 dispenser and a MH light for supplement. I didn’t do this because I did not have an air tight grow tent. I did not make my CO2 by fermentation for the same reason, no grow tent.

Stay tuned and subscribe.
